Craniosacral Therapy

How can it benefit your child?

How can pediatric craniosacral therapy help?

It is well known that the birthing process is quite a journey for both mother and child.  Physically as well as emotionally, the process is life changing. Even the most healthy and natural births still require the baby’s skull to mould to the shape necessary to pass through the birth canal.  This can result in strain and stress on the baby’s CranioSacral system and if left untreated, can result in:

  • Colic
  • Reflux and other digestive disorders
  • Failure to thrive
  • Nursing challenges
  • Tongue and lip ties
  • Torticollis ( a twist in the baby’s structure or the favoring of one side)
  • Plagiocephaly (misshapen head)

Susie has successfully treated the above infant challenges and has become a top referral source of area professionals including Lawrence Memorial Hospital.  In addition to her work with infants, Susie works with children and has found CranioSacral Therapy effective for a multitude of issues.

effective for children suffering from:

  • Autism
  • ADD and ADHD
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Chronic Ear infection
  • Connective Tissue disorders
  • Emotional Difficulties
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Motor-Coordination impairments
  • Post Surgical rehabilitation
  • Concussion
  • Seizures
  • Sensory Processing Disorder
  • Speech and Language challenges

What does a pediatric session look like?

As with adults, gentle touch is applied to the hips, spine/torso, neck and head.
However, with children, the application is adapted to meet them where they are at.

Infants up to one year are encouraged to stay with their caregiver on a treatment table or if both are comfortable, the baby may lie directly on the table with their caregiver close by their side.

For children 1-5 years, a thick mat is placed on the floor for play with their caregiver while Susie sits behind the child and applies the techniques. Susie has toys. Books and other activities to occupy your child, or you are welcome to bring a familiar toy from home.

Children 5 and up are asked to lie on the treatment table to receive the work, but may sit in a reclined position to read, fidget with a toy or color if necessary to help hold their attention.

It is incredibly helpful for the child to be well aware of what they are going to do and why they are being asked to receive CranioSacral Therapy.  Please talk to your child about what made you want to try Craniosacral Therapy as well as review the "What to Expect" booklet below to familiarize them with the setting and the therapy before your first session.
