How can Pediatric CranioSacral therapy help?
It is well known that the birthing process is quite a journey for both mother and child. Physically as well as emotionally, the process is life changing. Even the most healthy and natural births still require the baby’s skull to mould to the shape necessary to pass through the birth canal. This can result in strain and stress on the baby’s CranioSacral system and if left untreated, can result in:
Tongue and lip ties
Nursing challenges
Reflux and other digestive disorders
Torticollis ( a twist in the baby’s structure or the favoring of one side)
Plagiocephaly (misshapen head)
Colic
Failure to thrive
Susie has successfully treated the above infant challenges and has become a top referral source of area professionals, including Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Due to a full practice, Susie has brought on Alejandra Prusaitis to support the pediatric clientele. In addition to infants, we also work with children and have found CranioSacral Therapy effective for a multitude of issues.

What does a pediatric session look like?
It is incredibly helpful for the child to be well aware of what they are going to do and why they are being asked to receive CranioSacral Therapy. Please talk to your child about what made you want to try Craniosacral Therapy as well as review the "What to Expect" booklet below to familiarize them with the setting and the therapy before your first session.
Babies may lie directly on the table with their caregiver close by their side, or they are welcome to stay in their caregiver’s arms. Gentle touch is applied while baby engages in normal activity and play.
For children 1-4 years, a thick mat is placed on the floor for play with their caregiver while your practitioner sits behind the child and applies the techniques. Our office has toys, books and other activities to occupy your child, or you are welcome to bring a familiar toy from home.
Children 5 and up are asked to lie on the treatment table to receive the work, but may sit in a reclined position to read, fidget with a toy or color if necessary to help hold their attention.
Family Centered Care
Curious to learn more about a truly holistic approach to your child’s healing?
Given that the nervous system is the control center for the entire body and mind, we as CranioSacral therapists have witnessed first hand how our primary relationships shape our brains, emotional responses and even our bodies. We also see this wisdom in more ancient health models such as Chinese Medicine where a common tenant is, “To heal the Child, treat the Mother”
Modern day science is catching up with the emergence of Relational Neuroscience. A common phrase, coined by researcher Ed Tronick, is that parents are “neroarchitects” for their children, meaning the first meaningful relationships of a child literally build the brain.
With the care team we have built, we are excited to be able to offer the opportunity to treat the whole family, either by individual appointments for each family member, or with multiple practitioners working with multiple family members simultaneously.
This can be truly transformational work and facilitate life long changes as well as shift intergenerational dysfunctional patterns. Inquire about Family Centered care with your provider upon your next visit
