CranioSacral Therapy Session
A CranioSacral Therapy Session is a very gentle, hands-on manipulation of the CranioSacral system, which consists of the skull, brain, cerebral spinal fluid, spinal cord, spine and the sacral bone at the end of the spine. The primary goal of CranioSacral therapy is to optimize the flow of cerebral spinal fluid that serves to clean and nourish the brain and restore balance to the whole body. Restrictions of the spinal cord can obstruct the flow, and these restrictions are often the result of tension in the body due to stress, trauma and repetitive use. From evaluation of this system, deep tension patterns present themselves and we can work to release them from the “inside out”. For a more detailed description, click here.
What to expect from a CranioSacral Session for Adults
Upon arrival, Susie will talk with you about what is currently going on for you and your body and what changes you may have experienced from a previous session if you are a returning client. Loose fitting, comfortable clothes may be left on for this session. Lying face up on the treatment table, Susie will begin by placing her hands at various points along the spine to evaluate the flow of cerebral spinal fluid and detect any restrictions in the membranes that house the cerebral spinal fluid. From this evaluation, Susie will begin to treat the restrictions through very subtle manipulations of the skull and/or sacral bone. During such manipulations, one may feel pressure changes in the skull, opening of sinus passages, temperature changes, “swirling” or movement of cerebral spinal fluid in the head, or possibly nothing at all except a deep sense of relaxation. As these restrictions are released, one may feel inclined to roll or change positions. Please follow these inclinations as they help the fascia (connective tissue) unwind. Also, as the tissues release, sometimes they can elicit an emotional response. This is perfectly normal and contributes to a full release of the tension or trauma. The body ultimately knows what it needs and Susie will follow these cues and ensure that your cerebral spinal fluid flow is within the normal ranges and optimally flowing in order to restore balance and harmony in the body and leave one feeling a sense of peace. These sessions can be anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour.

What to expect from a CranioSacral Session for Infants (birth to appx. 1 year)
Upon arrival, Susie will review with the caregiver what initially led them to try CranioSacral Therapy and explain how the therapy can possibly help the child. Ultimately, work is done on the infant in whatever position is most comfortable to baby, caregiver and therapist, but typically the child is resting with the caregiver. CranioSacral therapy can be done while regular activities of the baby take place such as nursing/feeding, playing, diaper changing and so on therefore scheduling around such schedules isn't always necessary. The baby may have varying responses to the therapy such as relaxing, sucking, crying, laughing, moving/rolling and even sleeping- all of which are normal and are vital observations during the session. All sessions will be wound down to an appropriate stopping point and the time can vary from 15-40 minutes. At the initial appointment, plenty of discussion will take place to ensure that both caregiver and therapist are on the same page. Your session fee can be prorated to reflect time in office- so please don't fret if the session is shorter than anticipated- we simply do what is being called for by the infant. What to expect from a CranioSacral session for Kids (walking-8 years old)
Children in this age range like to move, have short attention spans and enjoy experiencing their environment hands on! Please bring a favorite toy or activity as well as a comfort item for your child to play with during their session. Additional toys and activities are available in office for exploration and the therapy will take place as the child moves about freely. Often times rapport building needs to take place with kids this age so our initial session may be just that, as well as discussing any concerns that led the family to try CranioSacral therapy. Susie will meet the child where they are at and work within their comfort zone at all times. Rates can be prorated to reflect any variances in session time.
In Home and Onsite Sessions
Susie is available to travel to an individuals home or specialized care facility if necessary. Please contact Susie directly to schedule these sessions, rather than booking online, to ensure proper time is allotted for travel. Travel fees may apply depending on location.
